What should a gardener do in January?

Sharing the experience of agronomist and gardener Alexander Khorobrovets:

What needs to be done during the winter period:

Remove snow from trees to prevent branch breakage.

Pack down the snow under the trees so that mice cannot create tunnels in the loose snow cover to the trunks and gnaw at the bark.

Gather snow on strawberries and raspberries to prevent the berry bushes from being exposed during thaws and freezing in subsequent frosts.

Organize snow retention by piling snow in ridges across the slope.

Feed the birds by placing food in a location inaccessible to mice.

Purchase film, mineral fertilizers, micronutrients, gardening tools, liming agents, copper sulfate, plant protection products, and ammonia.

Collect eggshells, onion and garlic skins, citrus peels, potato scraps, paper waste, and wood ash at home.

Study literature on gardening, learn advanced practices, take notes, attend lectures (many are available online); create a planting plan for vegetables for the current year, as well as a plan for transplanting and new plantings of trees and shrubs.
