According to a large-scale study by the American Psychological Association, this occurs in retirement age, based on an analysis of data from 460,000 people of various ages.
The study focuses on analyzing key aspects of subjective well-being: life satisfaction, as well as positive and negative emotions. Primarily, it concerns how a person perceives their own life.
Scientists have developed the so-called “happiness curve”: a sharp decline in life satisfaction is observed between the ages of 9 and 16, after which the level of happiness gradually increases, peaking at around 70 years old.
At the same time, dissatisfaction with life in middle-aged individuals is considered a normal phenomenon, as noted by the authors of the scientific online journal Neuroscience News.
