Pediatrician Olga Tatarkina reported that one of the most dangerous New Year's gifts for children is a construction set made of small magnetic balls. There have been cases where children swallowed such balls, creating a serious threat to their health and life. Although this toy may seem beneficial for development, toddlers tend to taste everything, even inedible objects. If a child swallows one ball, it usually does not cause major problems. However, if they swallow several balls, the situation becomes much more complicated — the risk to the child's health and life significantly increases.
According to Olga Tatarkina, the problem is that the balls have strong magnetic attraction. They enter the stomach and then the intestines, where they move at different speeds. As a result, the magnets can attract each other, damaging the walls of the intestines and stomach. Holes can even form in the walls. To avoid worrying about the child's safety, the doctor strongly recommends not to take risks and not to purchase such toys.
In second place on the list of the most dangerous New Year's gifts for children are toys with propellers (for example, flying fairies and helicopters). Toddlers can easily get injured if they accidentally put their face or fingers in the wrong place. Toy weapons also pose a danger: darts with sharp tips, guns with pellets, and swords.
Although choosing a gift for a child may seem like a simple task, it is not. It is important to consider not only the developmental qualities of the toy but also its safety. The child's safety should be a priority.
