The optimal option is recycling.
When burning plastic in an open fire or in an oven, products of incomplete combustion are released. Polyvinyl chloride and other chlorinated plastics produce extremely dangerous dioxins when burned. Even burning polyethylene and other non-chlorinated plastics leads to the formation of toxic substances.
In the soil, plastic can remain for centuries, virtually not decomposing. In light and air, it decomposes faster, but also releases many harmful compounds.
The only environmentally safe option is to throw such waste into a garbage container. This will allow for recycling or, at least, transport to landfills for safe storage.
