Most often, these trees are made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC 3). Pay attention to the presence of certificates. A tree made from low-quality materials may emit harmful substances such as phenol and formaldehyde, especially if it is placed near a radiator.
Therefore, before purchasing an artificial tree, it is worth considering whether you will want to replace it in a few years. An artificial tree should last as long as possible, as it can only offset its ecological footprint after 20 years of use.
Only live trees can be recycled. For example, in Riga, municipal services have been collecting them for composting for several years after the New Year holidays.
