Where Does Déjà Vu Come From?

The exact causes are unknown.

Déjà vu cannot be predicted or artificially induced, which is why information about it lacks objective scientific support. There is a suggestion that this sensation arises when the brain mistakenly interprets current sensory data as already familiar or quickly encodes it into memory, and then retrieves it as distant memories.

This hypothesis is supported by the fact that in a state of déjà vu, a person perceives not only objects and their arrangement but also the words and actions of those around them as already familiar. They have the impression that they are about to remember what will happen next, although in reality, they can only “remember” it after the event occurs.

Finally, despite the feeling of familiarity with the situation, a person is unable to determine when exactly they have encountered it before.
