The dangerous houseplants for cats were listed by general practice veterinarian Edward Wolf.
“Among the most common plants that pose a danger to cats are lilies, azaleas, ivy, and dieffenbachia. Therefore, in homes where cats live, the presence of lilies should be strictly prohibited. If a cat sniffs or licks the stamen of a lily, it can lead to acute kidney failure. This plant is extremely toxic to animals,” he explained.
In addition, other plants can also be dangerous for cats, warns veterinary gastroenterologist Tatyana Lyulko. Among them, she mentioned aloe, crocus, monstera, dracaena, philodendron, caladium, lily of the valley, gladiolus, hyacinth, foxglove, kalanchoe, and iris.
The veterinarian added that some mushrooms can also pose a threat to pets. “For example, consuming a pepper mushroom can cause poisoning,” clarified Tatyana Lyulko.
