Cleans Everything! Unique Properties of Lemon Peel: 7 Useful Tips for the Home

Lemon peel is most commonly used in cooking to add tartness to dishes. However, few realize that lemon peel can also be useful in everyday life!

Clean Your Coffee Maker and Kettle

Your coffee maker will look like new: just place the peel inside, fill it with hot water, and let it sit for a few hours. After that, rinse the appliance as usual. To get rid of scale in the kettle, boil it with a few strips of lemon peel, let it sit for an hour, then drain the water and rinse.

Create a Universal Cleaner

Lemon is an excellent natural cleaner. It effectively removes grease, disinfects surfaces, and fills the room with a pleasant aroma. To make a universal cleaner, you will need white vinegar, water, and lemon peel: mix the ingredients in a glass jar and let it sit for two weeks. After this time, strain the solution and pour it into a spray bottle halfway. Fill the remaining part with water. Shake well, and your universal cleaner, made entirely of natural ingredients, is ready to use.

Create a Pleasant Aroma in the House

To fill your home with freshness, place cut pieces of lemon peel around the rooms. Once they dry out, replace them with fresh ones.

Clean the Sink and Bathtub

Baking soda and lemon peel are the perfect combination that easily tackles any dirt. To make your bathtub or sink shine again, generously sprinkle them with baking soda, then scrub the powder with the inside of the lemon peel. Rinse away the residue with water.

Disinfect Cutting Boards

The citric acid found in lemon peel has antibacterial properties, allowing it to disinfect any surfaces, including cutting boards. First, wash the boards thoroughly, then rub them with lemon peel and let them sit for a few minutes. After that, rinse the board to remove any peel residue.

Eliminate Unpleasant Odors from Your Hands

If you’ve cleaned fish and your hands smell unpleasant, don’t worry! Rub your hands with lemon peel, paying special attention to your fingers and nails, then wash your hands thoroughly with soap.

Clean the Microwave

Place a small glass container with water and a few lemon peels in the microwave. Set the appliance to full power for 5 minutes — during this time, the water should boil and fill the space with steam. Turn off the microwave, wait 5-7 minutes for it to cool down, and wipe the interior walls with a damp cloth.
