Cardiologist Explained Why Porridge Should Not Be Salted

When properly prepared, porridge can become a real 'medicine' against cholesterol plaques.

Professor Shekhyan noted that almost all types of grains used for making porridge contain many beneficial substances, including trace elements that strengthen the cardiovascular system. Oatmeal (made from whole oats), millet, and buckwheat porridge are particularly beneficial from a cardiology perspective.

“Properly cooked porridge can become an effective remedy against cholesterol plaques,” said the specialist.

Dr. Shekhyan advises getting used to consuming porridge without adding fats and oils.

“Porridge without oil helps cleanse the blood vessels and reduces the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases,” emphasized the professor.

Moreover, cardiologist Shekhyan explained why salt should not be added to porridge. According to the expert, the grains already contain components that can compensate for the absence of salt. Adding salt increases the risk of consuming it in excessive amounts, which is undesirable and harmful to health.

“Grains contain sufficient amounts of sodium and chlorine — the main elements of table salt. By adding salt, we provoke fluid retention in the body and increase the risk of hypertension,” noted the cardiologist.

The doctor added that the taste of porridge without salt can be improved with natural spices. Instead of butter, he recommended using vegetable oil, but in moderation.
