Reducing Caloric Intake with Age Contributes to Longevity, Says Doctor

Nutritionist and psychotherapist Mikhail Ginzburg: to increase life expectancy with age, one should limit the intake of fats and sugars.

Doctor Mikhail Ginzburg shared the main principles of nutrition that contribute to longevity. According to him, the key point is moderation in the amount of food consumed. Reducing the caloric content of meals with age, in his opinion, helps prolong life.

“How to avoid rapid aging and maintain activity and productivity even in old age? First of all, it is necessary to slow down the aging process by limiting the caloric content of your diet,” noted Ginzburg.

The physician added that an excessive amount of sweet and fatty foods makes nutrition unhealthy. He emphasized that their consumption complicates the control of satiety, and their share in the diet should be minimal. Such food causes sharp fluctuations in blood sugar levels, leading to increased appetite and strong hunger, forcing a person to overeat. Ginzburg recommended reducing foods with a high glycemic index in the diet, such as sweets, white bread, pastries, as well as baked goods made with butter, rice, and potatoes. The expert stated that an obsession with such food after the age of 40 could contribute to the development of cancer.

Each meal should be complemented with vegetables and lean protein, which will help make the diet less caloric and prevent sharp spikes in appetite. If possible, legumes should be included in the diet, replacing potatoes with them.

“To reduce the caloric content of meals, one can skip some meals, eat in small portions, and have dinner earlier,” added the specialist.
