The variety of colors in the diet contributes to strengthening health.
A nutritionist explained what a balanced and proper diet should look like.
Why should you include vegetables and fruits of different colors in your diet?
Everyone has their favorite foods that they prefer to consume most often. Sometimes this leads to them replacing a full diet. However, even the healthiest foods cannot fully provide the body with everything it needs, so variety in the diet is extremely important.
According to dietitian Marina Sorokina, such variety will help the body obtain a complete range of nutrients and reduce the risk of developing serious diseases by about half.
The expert emphasizes that regular consumption of fruits, vegetables, and other foods of various colors is extremely beneficial. The more colors on your plate (excluding those that grow in fields), the greater the benefit.
- Different products have different sets of nutrients. However, if they are similar in color, then most of the vitamins will also match. This is a great opportunity to replenish the deficiency of necessary substances for those who monitor their diet, - notes the specialist.
Focusing on Color
The dietitian explained which nutrients are predominant in foods of certain colors.
Orange and Yellow (carrots, pumpkins, bell peppers, corn, melons). Foods of these shades are rich in beta-carotene, which is beneficial for eye health. These substances also help strengthen the immune system.
Red and Pink (tomatoes, watermelons, pink grapefruits, apricots, beets). They contain a powerful antioxidant - lycopene, which helps prevent the development of cancer, heart attacks, and strokes. Lycopene also makes blood vessel walls more elastic, reducing the risk of migraines and other unpleasant sensations during blood pressure fluctuations.
Green (leafy vegetables, zucchini, cucumbers, onions, courgettes). These foods promote weight loss, increase stress resistance, and normalize the functioning of the digestive system. Additionally, green vegetables help accelerate the healing process of inflammation in the body.
Blue and Purple (pomegranates, eggplants, grapes, blueberries). They are rich in phytochemicals - phenols, which help lower cholesterol levels in the blood, suppress the growth of harmful bacteria, and activate metabolism, which is important for achieving a slim waist.
