Foods Identified That Are Associated with Fewer Complaints of Insomnia

A diet that regularly includes fresh vegetables, fruits, and dairy products is associated with higher sleep quality.

Researchers reached this conclusion after analyzing data from a large observational study. The results were published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition.

The study involved 1,497 participants. Specialists compared the characteristics of their diets and how participants assessed their own sleep. The scientists took into account the consumption of 12 main food groups.

The analysis showed that among various dietary patterns, only one was associated with a more favorable sleep condition. This diet included a higher presence of fresh vegetables, fruits, and dairy products. People who consumed these foods more frequently reported fewer sleep problems.

The study also found that an increase in the proportion of these foods in the diet was accompanied by a decrease in sleep complaints. In other words, with more frequent consumption of plant-based and dairy foods, participants noted fewer difficulties with sleep.

The authors emphasize that the obtained data do not allow for a direct causal relationship to be claimed. Nevertheless, the results indicate a possible link between a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and dairy products and a lower likelihood of sleep problems.
