Like any other product, green tea is not suitable for everyone. Some people should avoid it or consume it with caution, said Aizhan Ysqakova, a general practitioner from Almaty, to NUR.KZ.
According to the specialist, the first category of people who are advised not to drink green tea includes those who suffer from increased nervous excitability or anxiety. The caffeine present in green tea can exacerbate nervous tension and cause anxiety. Therefore, individuals with such issues should limit their consumption of green tea or choose a decaffeinated version.
The second category consists of people with stomach diseases or digestive system problems, noted Aizhan Ysqakova. Green tea can irritate the gastric mucosa and increase gastric juice secretion. Thus, those suffering from gastritis, stomach ulcers, or other digestive disorders are advised to consume green tea with caution and in small amounts.
The third category includes people taking certain medications.
“Green tea can interact with some medications and alter their effectiveness. For example, it can enhance the effects of anticoagulants (blood-thinning medications) and some antihypertensive drugs. Therefore, it is advisable to consult a doctor before consuming green tea, especially if you are taking any medications,” the expert explained.
The doctor emphasized that green tea has many beneficial properties. However, each body is unique, and some individuals may have specific characteristics that make this drink unsuitable for them. Therefore, if you have health issues or doubts about consuming green tea, it is better to seek advice from a specialist.
