Scientists Discover an Unexpected Effect of Daily Almond Consumption

Daily almond consumption is associated with reduced signs of inflammation in people with obesity. This conclusion was reached by researchers from the United States, and the results of their work were published in the journal Nutrients.

The experiment involved 69 adults with obesity. Participants were divided into two groups, while their usual diet and lifestyle remained unchanged. One group of volunteers consumed 57 grams of almonds daily, while the other received a snack in the form of cookies with comparable caloric content.

The observation lasted six weeks. After that, the researchers recorded changes in inflammation markers in those participants who regularly ate nuts. In this group, levels of several substances — IL-6, TNF-α, and IFN-γ — decreased.

These compounds are associated with chronic inflammatory processes in the body. Such a condition, as noted in the study, increases the likelihood of developing diabetes, as well as cardiovascular diseases.

The researchers suggest that the observed effect may be related to the composition of almonds. The nut contains dietary fiber, unsaturated fats, vitamin E, and various minerals.

According to the authors of the study, including almonds in the diet may help reduce inflammatory processes in people with obesity.
