Hearty Breakfast and Light Dinner: Scientists Unveil the Secrets of Nutrition According to Circadian Rhythms

Research shows that not only the composition of food matters, but also the timing of its consumption. This aspect affects body weight, appetite throughout the day, and the risk of chronic diseases, reports The Washington Post.

Recent studies confirm that to maintain optimal health, it is best to consume the majority of calories in the first half of the day. An ideal option is a hearty breakfast, a moderate lunch, and a small dinner. This eating pattern aligns with our circadian rhythms, which regulate sleep and wake cycles.

A new area of research known as chrononutrition is actively developing. Marta Garole, a professor of physiology and nutrition at the University of Murcia in Spain, notes that in modern society, many people often skip breakfast and overeat in the evening after a long workday. Researchers argue that it would be much more beneficial to do the opposite.

Spain is famous for its culture of late dinners. Professor Garole emphasizes that people who prefer a substantial lunch and a light dinner experience fewer metabolic issues compared to those who consume a lot of calories in the evening.

These findings are supported by other studies. In a randomized study conducted at Johns Hopkins University, scientists found that young people burned less fat during workouts if they had dinner at 10:00 PM. At the same time, the same participants lost significantly more fat if their dinner occurred before 6:00 PM. Therefore, experts recommend adhering to these guidelines.
