Research Shows That Complete Refusal of Potatoes Negatively Affects Health

The question of the harm of potatoes has been discussed for a long time. Many specialists recommend limiting its consumption to 2-3 times a month. How justified are these recommendations?

 

American researchers have concluded that excluding potatoes from the diet can lead to serious health problems. The body will experience an acute deficiency of vitamins C and B, as well as potassium. This is reported in the journal Frontiers, where the results of the study were analyzed.

The new study was conducted by scientists from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Many people try to avoid potatoes based on rumors and unverified claims. It is believed that potatoes can contribute to weight gain, cause digestive problems, and lead to diabetes. However, by gathering a group of volunteers, the researchers were able to debunk these myths. Replacing potatoes with grains is not the right solution.

During the experiment, two groups of participants were formed. Both groups received food with the same number of calories but different compositions. After that, blood tests were taken from them. As a result, the scientists found that those who replaced potatoes with grains had lower levels of potassium, vitamins B6, C, and fiber. The carbohydrates found in potatoes and those from grains are not interchangeable.
