The Secret of the 'Blue Zones': What Longevity Experts Eat Only Once a Week

The likelihood of premature aging can be reduced without strict diets — it is enough to reconsider the frequency of consuming one habitual product. This was stated by longevity expert Dan Buettner.

According to him, scientific studies on healthy aging often converge on one point: the amount of meat in the diet should be reduced. Complete abstinence is not necessary; however, the so-called 'blue zones' — regions with a high concentration of elderly people — serve as an example. There, meat dishes are not completely excluded but are included in the menu about once a week.

The expert emphasizes that transitioning to strict vegetarianism is not essential. It is much more important to make the foundation of the diet plant-based. As sources of protein, he recommends legumes — for example, chickpeas and lentils.

In addition, among the preferred foods, Buettner mentions whole grains, nuts, and vegetables. Such a diet, in his opinion, better aligns with the nutritional principles associated with a long lifespan.

Previously, the specialist also advised against sweet cereals and bacon at breakfast.
