Green Bananas Promote the Development of Beneficial Microflora in the Gut

Green bananas are significantly healthier than their overripe counterparts.

According to conducted studies, fruits with green skin have a similar effect on the gut as prebiotics. In other words, regular consumption of such bananas contributes to the development of beneficial bacterial flora in the gastrointestinal tract, which, in turn, strengthens the human immune system.

The reason lies in the fact that green bananas contain more beneficial indigestible starch and fiber compared to ripe fruits. According to several studies, resistant starch passes through the digestive tract without being broken down, allowing it to collect potentially toxic substances and eliminate them naturally. There are hypotheses that this property may improve the body's defense against certain types of cancer; however, there is currently insufficient evidence, and further research is needed.

Another advantage of green bananas is that they are less sweet and lower in calories, leading to a lower glycemic load on the body. Therefore, people who monitor their blood sugar levels and control their weight are recommended to consume green bananas. The optimal portion is one green banana per day.
