French dietitian Henri Joyeux has developed dietary principles throughout his practice that contribute to forming a healthy approach not only to diet but to the entire lifestyle. This article presents his recommendations.
1. Consume at least five servings of vegetables or fruits a day
These products are sources of water, sugar, as well as vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and dietary fibers.
2. Avoid combining sugar, alcohol, and fats
Studies show that such a combination may increase the risk of developing breast, uterine, and prostate cancer. Additionally, excess alcohol has already been proven to negatively affect health.
3. Maintain physical activity
Regular physical activity helps reduce excess body fat, improve liver function, increase muscle mass, and normalize sleep. It is not necessary to engage in exhausting workouts — the activity should be moderate but consistent.
4. Include olive oil in your diet
This product is rich in oleic acid and high levels of monounsaturated fats, which helps reduce the likelihood of cancer and mortality from cardiovascular diseases.
5. Light meals are the optimal choice for dinner
Overloading the stomach in the evening can lead to various health problems. Henri Joyeux recommends for dinner: one or two fruits, a green salad with olive oil, a few slices of toasted bread, and a bit of almonds.
6. Cook at temperatures no higher than 95°C
This cooking method preserves the natural flavor of the products and facilitates their absorption.
7. Sleep quality affects weight
Studies show that lack of sleep can negatively impact weight, leading to excess mass in both children and adults. Doctors recommend sleeping at least 8 hours a day.
8. Do not exclude bread and baked goods from your diet
They are sources of plant proteins and complex carbohydrates necessary for muscles and the brain. However, it is important to consider the type of product: whole grain bread contains proteins and B vitamins, while white bread does not have such a composition.
