Household Tips: How to Properly Wrap Food in Foil for Baking

There are two categories of people: some love to cook, while others easily handle washing dishes and kitchen utensils. Unfortunately, often the former do not have the latter nearby, ready to clean up after cooking. In this case, helpful household tips come to the rescue.

Baking foil is an essential attribute in every housewife's kitchen. Dishes prepared with its help become as tasty and aromatic as those cooked over coals, while the baking tray remains clean. A roll of foil placed on the baking sheet will come in handy both when baking desserts and when preparing meat and fish.

How to Choose the Right Baking Foil

It is important to select the right foil. For any cooking method, it is better to use thick foil, which will prevent tearing or deformation during baking. However, if only thin foil is available, there is no need to be upset. Just fold it in several layers and secure it tightly on both sides.

Contact of Food with Air During Baking

When baking meat and fish in foil, it is important to avoid contact between the food and air. Therefore, the edges of the foil should be secured carefully. At the same time, when preparing fruits and vegetables, air will not be a hindrance: thanks to it, the products will steam and become softer. If you prefer roasted food, wrap the foil tightly.

How to Get a Golden Crispy Crust

Undoubtedly, a dish roasted to a golden crust looks very appetizing. However, not everyone manages to achieve this effect when using foil. Therefore, it is important to first bring the dish to full readiness and then unwrap or remove the foil. Let it sit for 10–15 minutes until the desired browning appears. It is recommended to bake under the top heat, but even in a regular oven, a crispy crust can be achieved. In this case, the foil should be removed 5–10 minutes before the cooking is finished, otherwise, the dish may burn.

Matte and Shiny Side: How to Properly Wrap Food

If you look closely at the foil, you can notice that its sides are different. One side is shiny, while the other is matte. The quality of baking and the taste of the final dish depend on which side you place the foil on the baking sheet. The smooth side of the roll transmits heat better and sticks less to the food, so make sure that the matte side of the foil is on the outside.

Temperature Regime During Baking

If you are using an oven, the temperature regime will differ. Bake meat at 170 degrees, poultry at 160 degrees, and fish at 145 degrees. If you prefer to cook over an open flame, place the food on the grill when the coals have cooled slightly. It is important that the dish cooks slowly in the smoke, not in the flames, otherwise, it will remain raw inside.
