Foods That Can Replace Medications

Proper nutrition can significantly alleviate the symptoms of many diseases. Ordinary foods, familiar to everyone, can act as natural medicines. It is only important to know which products to pay special attention to. Israeli nutritionists offer several simple and tasty recommendations.

Olive oil helps lower cholesterol levels

One of the main advantages of olive oil is its ability to lower blood cholesterol levels and clean blood vessels of atherosclerotic plaques. Just 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil a day can help reduce the amount of 'bad' cholesterol. This amount can be distributed: one tablespoon can be added to a salad, the second used for quick frying, and the third, as done in Mediterranean countries, consumed with whole grain bread by dipping it in the oil.

Coffee and tea reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes

Studies show that people who drink 3-4 cups of coffee or tea a day have a 20% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. When consuming decaffeinated coffee, this anti-diabetic effect increases to 30%. A group of scientists led by Dr. Rachel Huxley from the University of Sydney in Australia believes that the positive effects are due to substances found in tea and coffee, such as antioxidants, magnesium, and chlorogenic acids.

Yogurt and eggs provide energy in the morning

Some people struggle with getting up in the morning and feel exhausted until noon. A breakfast consisting of yogurt and an egg (in any form) can energize, as these foods are rich in tyrosine, which activates brain function. This substance is also found in avocados, almonds, chicken meat, bananas, and sesame, but, let's face it, eggs and yogurt are much more accessible.

Knee pain? Eat fish

 -

People suffering from osteoarthritis are advised by doctors to include fish dishes in their diet at least 3-4 times a week, such as trout, mullet, sea bass, and dentex. These types of fish are rich in proteins and omega-3, which are known to reduce inflammatory processes in the joints. It is also beneficial to consume yogurts and cheeses made from sheep and/or goat milk in cases of osteoarthritis, while dairy products from cow's milk should be limited.

Beer and wine protect against osteoporosis

It has been found that beer and wine can be quite beneficial when consumed in moderation. Studies have shown that these beverages contain a substance similar to the female sex hormone estrogen. As is known, a decrease in estrogen levels in the body leads to menopause and the development of osteoporosis. Thus, women who consume beer and wine can actually improve the condition of their bone tissue, with beer proving to be even more beneficial in this regard.
