Tangerines and Sausage: New Year Products That Can Trigger Exacerbation

The New Year’s table can be dangerous. It is not only possible to get food poisoning. There are products whose freshness and storage conditions deserve special attention, but even fresh and quality products can cause undesirable reactions during the holidays. In large quantities, they can provoke exacerbation of chronic diseases, which jeopardizes the entire holiday.

First and foremost, people suffering from gastrointestinal diseases are at risk. “Some products can provoke exacerbation of peptic ulcers, gastritis, and cholecystitis,” notes Mikhail Kutushov, a toxicologist and candidate of medical sciences. “Therefore, it is essential to be extremely careful, avoid overindulgence, or completely exclude dangerous products.”

Most often, these are the products we know as junk food and fast food. However, they are not the only ones that pose a danger. Special caution should be exercised with the following products:

spicy and hot sauces,
mustard,
pepper,
tangerines, oranges, and other citrus fruits,
tomato juice and tomatoes,
sour berries,
fatty meats and fatty sauces,
lard,
dairy products with high fat content,
strong black tea, coffee, and caffeinated beverages.

Most of these products will be on the New Year’s table. This includes fried, spicy, salty foods and hard-to-digest dishes that are especially popular during the holidays.

“All the listed products can lead to unpleasant symptoms for people with chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers, or chronic cholecystitis,” warns Kutushov. “If you are prone to these diseases or suffer from them chronically, try to limit your consumption of the specified types of food.”
