There are certain groups of drinks and foods that can promote blood thickening, which, in turn, can lead to the formation of blood clots. As is known, it is not always possible to diagnose the presence of a thrombus in advance, and its blockage in an artery or vein can cause almost instantaneous death.

 

According to dietitian Mikhail Ginzburg, blood thickening can occur after consuming certain common foods. As the specialist noted, the blood coagulation system protects the body from blood loss; however, with excessive activity, it can lead to blood clotting in the vessels even in the absence of damage to their walls.

“In this case, a thrombus is formed,” explained Ginzburg.

Which drinks and foods should be consumed with caution?

3 types of drinks that promote blood clotting:

sugary drinks, such as soda and packaged juices;
salty liquids, for example, brines;
all types of alcohol.

3 types of foods that promote blood clotting:

Organs: liver, kidneys, heart. Although they are recommended for improving blood formation, in large quantities they can contribute to blood thickening and an increase in platelet levels, as well as an increase in hemoglobin.

Legumes. These foods are rich in plant proteins, which can increase blood viscosity. Therefore, beans and peas are not recommended for consumption with high blood pressure.

Sugar. It is not only added to tea but is also found in large quantities in industrial products: confectionery, baked goods, white bread. Due to sugar, blood glucose levels rise and lipid production increases, leading to increased blood viscosity and a higher risk of thrombosis.
