Consuming coffee immediately after a workout is not an optimal solution, noted fitness trainer and nutritionist Irina BARBASHINSKAYA. It is better to drink coffee either before the workout or two hours after finishing physical activities.

During intense physical activity, there is an increase in cortisol production, which is necessary to provide energy to nerve and muscle cells. After a workout, the body needs to transition to a state of parasympathetic activity, that is, to recover and relax. The caffeine in coffee can overload the nervous system and hinder proper recovery after exercise.

Thus, if you cannot do without an invigorating drink, it is best to have coffee before the workout to boost motivation and increase energy levels for exercising.
