Unexpectedly, these products should not be combined with tangerines

Tangerines are undoubtedly the most winter fruits in our country. Their bright aroma and rich color lift the spirits, and they are rich in vitamins B and C, making them very beneficial. Tangerines are invariably present on the New Year's table, but there are several products that should not be consumed together with them.

Nutritionists emphasize that tangerines are best eaten separately, avoiding mixing with other products. This rule applies not only to citrus fruits but to all fruits in general. The optimal time for their consumption is in the morning or during the day, not on an empty stomach, but 1–1.5 hours after the main meal.

It is not recommended to combine tangerines with milk: the protein casein, reacting with organic fruit acid, causes increased gas formation. Another prohibited combination is tangerines with any types of animal protein (meat and fish). Such a combination can lead to putrefactive processes in the intestines, as meat and fish dishes are digested by the body significantly longer than fruits.

However, there are products that pair well with tangerines. For example, non-starchy vegetables — broccoli, spinach, bell peppers, cucumbers, asparagus, Chinese cabbage, celery, and greens (parsley, lettuce, leek). Citrus fruits are best added to salads as a garnish and a fresh fruity note.

Tangerines can also be combined with fermented dairy products: cheeses, especially soft ones, cottage cheese, and sour cream. However, people with inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases, such as gastritis and pancreatitis, should completely avoid tangerines and other citrus fruits.
