There are foods that negatively affect liver function: these include fatty types of meat (pork, lamb, duck, and goose), as well as sweets and baked goods. Gastroenterologist Valeria Lomova spoke about harmful foods.
Canned foods, fast food, and convenience foods that contain a large amount of salt, stabilizers, and preservatives have a particularly detrimental effect on liver health. Undoubtedly, ready-made meals are a convenient solution, but health is more important. Moreover, the liver is already under serious strain — try not to add extra problems for it.
Foods high in animal fat are also harmful. These include butter and margarine, lard, sausages, and hot dogs.
The situation with fruits, which are usually considered healthy, is not so straightforward: an excess of fructose can provoke fatty degeneration of the liver. Therefore, it is important to maintain moderation and, if possible, choose unsweetened berries.
Sugar is extremely harmful to the liver, as excessive consumption leads to increased blood glucose levels. As a result, this can cause the same fatty liver disease. Therefore, it is advisable to minimize the intake of white sugar, packaged juices, carbonated drinks, chocolate, cakes, and other desserts.
However, the most dangerous for the liver is alcohol — it destroys the organ's cells and can lead to fibrosis, which over time threatens the development of cirrhosis.
