The granddaughter of the late Queen of the United Kingdom, Elizabeth II, Princess Eugenie, became the heroine of the podcast "Table Manners" with Jessie and Lennie Ware. During the interview, she shared how she sometimes strays from the dietary norms accepted in the royal family.
Princess Eugenie, who is raising two children, admits that she prefers to do her own shopping and prepare breakfast every morning. Most often, they make scrambled eggs in olive oil with the addition of pepper, tomatoes, and garlic. It is the last ingredient that caught the attention of the podcast hosts. In the UK, it is known that garlic is not consumed in the royal family.
“Yes, members of the royal family are forbidden to eat certain products. There is a tradition: every Sunday evening, the whole family places one large grocery order. Everyone chooses what they need, and on Monday morning, a courier delivers the set,” shares Princess Eugenie.
She clarifies that she does not order anything special. Usually, it is chicken and sausages, as well as potatoes, onions, and garlic. The last two ingredients break the royal rule. The princess notes that in her parents' family, Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, their consumption is also prohibited. The reason, as one might guess, is the strong smell, which royal figures consider unacceptable, reports the online publication The Mirror.
Queen Camilla also spoke about the garlic ban on the Australian show MasterChef. She emphasized that garlic should never be present on the menu at official events.
Former royal chef Darren McGrady confirmed this rule in his interviews. According to him, the late Queen Elizabeth II prohibited serving dishes with excessive amounts of onion or garlic. However, Princess Eugenie does not have to participate in public events often, so her love for garlic is not considered a serious offense, McGrady noted earlier.
