Fish Lovers Have Healthy Brain Vessels - Study

Scientists from the University of Bordeaux compared the condition of brain vessels in more than one and a half thousand people over the age of 65.

All participants in the study had no prior issues with their vessels or brain — no strokes, no heart attacks, no atherosclerosis, and no dementia.

However, the results of magnetic resonance imaging showed that the condition of the vessels in their brains varied: some exhibited signs indicating possible vascular problems and impaired cerebral circulation.

In an article published in the journal Neurology, researchers note that the condition of the vessels is related to the amount of fish in the diet: the more fish a person consumes, the better their brain vessels appear. This connection is most pronounced in individuals aged 65–69; among those over 75, it is no longer possible to establish a clear relationship between fish consumption and the condition of brain vessels.

Although the study does not mention causal relationships, the benefits of fish and a varied diet have long been known, and the new data seem to confirm these benefits.
