This Unusual Product is Recommended for Autumn Apathy

When it is gray outside and the day is rapidly shortening, the body starts demanding more calories.

Instead of buns and coffee with syrup, doctors recommend paying attention to the old good product — lard. Dietitian Olga Zaitseva confirmed its benefits.

Vitamin Reserve

Lard is one of the few natural food sources of vitamin D, which is important during the season of short daylight. Its natural synthesis decreases, so nutrition comes to the forefront.

According to a study presented in the journal Nutrients, a deficiency of vitamin D can manifest as brittle bones, apathy, drowsiness, and reduced immunity, so fish, nuts, vegetable oils, and of course, lard are indispensable in the diet during autumn and winter.

There is Fat, but It's Not the Main Thing

Despite its fat content, when consumed in moderation, lard can normalize cholesterol metabolism. Beneficial fatty acids help maintain levels of 'good' cholesterol.

Lard contains, for example, arachidonic acid, which is involved in the functioning of the brain and immune system, as well as selenium, which has pronounced antioxidant properties.

Moreover, the fats in lard aid in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, E, and K, which protect cells from aging and inflammation.

How Much Lard Can Be Eaten in a Day

The dietitian recommended consuming 20–30 g of lard in the first half of the day when the body expends energy most actively. It is better to combine it with whole grain bread, fresh vegetables, or warm borscht.

However, it should not be forgotten that lard is contraindicated in:

liver diseases;
gallbladder diseases;
gastrointestinal tract lesions;
predisposition to cardiovascular disorders.
