In Ventspils, rescuers retrieved the body of a deceased person from a body of water, and on the roads of Latvia, seven drivers were detained for being under the influence of alcohol in one day. Another person was operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs.
The past 24 hours in Latvia once again saw tragedies on the water and serious violations on the roads.
In Ventspils, rescuers retrieved the body of a deceased person from a body of water, as reported by the State Fire and Rescue Service.
The body has been handed over to the State Police, which is investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Since the beginning of the year, rescuers have already recovered 19 bodies from Latvian waters.
With the onset of the warm season, the number of such cases traditionally begins to rise — especially on weekends and in recreational areas near water.
At the same time, the police continue to record a large number of violations on the roads.
In the past 24 hours, seven drivers of cars or motorcycles were detained for being under the influence of alcohol, and another driver was under the influence of narcotic substances.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated in five cases, which usually indicates a higher level of intoxication.
In three other cases, administrative proceedings have been started — the alcohol concentration in these drivers did not exceed 1.5 per mille.
A total of 95 traffic accidents were registered in Latvia in one day.
In five accidents, people were injured — six individuals sustained injuries, including two cyclists.
Most of the accidents with injuries occurred in the Riga region.
Another traffic accident with two injured individuals was registered in Zemgale, while an accident in Kurzeme resulted in one person being injured.
Overall, the police recorded 539 administrative violations in the field of road traffic.
Almost half of them were related to speeding — 240 fines were issued in one day.
Statistics show that the problem of dangerous driving in Latvia remains relevant, despite regular checks and increased police control.
Serious violations are particularly often recorded on weekends, when traffic intensity and the number of drivers under the influence of alcohol increase.
