Last year, 74% more foreigners were convicted in Latvia than the year before.
In Latvia, 306 foreigners were convicted for crimes committed last year, which is 73.9% more than the previous year, according to information compiled by the Judicial Administration.
Among them, 149 foreigners were sentenced to imprisonment, and 51 to short-term imprisonment.
Two foreigners were sentenced to imprisonment in 2025 for intentional murder, and four for intentional infliction of serious bodily harm. One foreigner was sentenced to imprisonment for rape.
Twenty-four foreigners were convicted for theft, fraud, or minor embezzlement, while 22 were convicted for thefts for which the Criminal Code provides for a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
Three were convicted for robberies, including two sentenced to imprisonment for up to 15 years.
In turn, four foreigners were convicted last year in Latvia for the illegal manufacture, possession, and sale of narcotic substances, two of whom were sentenced to prison.
Seven foreigners were convicted for causing traffic accidents with victims, two of whom were imprisoned for this.
