At Denver Airport, a plane fatally struck a man on the runway: the engine caught fire after the impact

A tragic incident occurred at Denver International Airport: a man breached the runway and ended up under a passenger plane. After the collision, the aircraft's engine caught fire, and passengers had to be urgently evacuated.

Denver Airport confirmed that the incident occurred on May 8 at approximately 11:19 PM local time (May 9, 08:19 MSK), when a man climbed over a fence and ended up on the runway. Two minutes after entering the area, he was struck by a passenger plane. Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased was not an airport employee, and his identity is still being established.

After the incident, the plane's engine caught fire, and smoke filled the cabin. Passengers were evacuated via emergency slides and transported by buses to the terminal. There were 224 passengers and seven crew members on board. Twelve people sustained minor injuries, five of whom were hospitalized.

Frontier Airlines has initiated an investigation into the incident.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is also conducting an investigation in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Denver airport authority, and local law enforcement.

The reasons for the man's breach of the airport's secured area remain unknown. Several U.S. agencies, including the NTSB and FAA, are investigating, according to bb.lv. The incident has raised concerns about security at U.S. airports and access control to runways.
