On Saturday afternoon, a fire occurred in an apartment building on Marijas Street in the center of Riga. Rescuers brought two people out of the smoke-filled apartment, who were then handed over to medical staff.
The fire broke out on Saturday afternoon in a five-story residential building on Marijas Street in the center of Riga.
The call to the State Fire and Rescue Service was received at 15:59. Upon arrival, rescuers found that household items and part of the wall were burning in an apartment on the fourth floor. The total area of the fire was about eight square meters.
Firefighters rescued two people from the apartment. After evacuation, they were handed over to the medical staff of the Emergency Medical Service.
Two more people left the building on their own before the rescuers arrived.
The fire was localized in less than an hour — at 16:52.
The causes of the fire have not yet been officially reported.
Even relatively small fires in apartment buildings are considered particularly dangerous due to the rapid spread of smoke through stairwells and corridors.
Rescuers regularly remind that it is the smoke that often poses the greatest threat to residents during such incidents.
