The State Chancellery admitted that it paid for the stay of Karins' wife and daughter in the VIP lounge

The State Chancellery of Latvia confirmed that the institution received and paid the bill for the use of the airport VIP lounges by the wife and daughter of then Prime Minister of Latvia Krisjanis Karins.

The flights to and from the USA went through two different airports, and the Karins family used the VIP lounges at both.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers' rules on the reimbursement of expenses related to business trips, if it is necessary to travel abroad with a spouse at the invitation, the state compensates the expenses for the spouse.

However, the reimbursement of expenses for children is not provided for by these rules.

Former director of the State Chancellery Janis Citskovskis told Latvian Television that they initially tried to cover the expenses for Karins' daughter's stay in the VIP lounge at the state's expense, but this was denied.

As a result, the amount of 647 euros for the use of VIP lounges by the Karins family was subsequently deducted from the salaries of Karins himself and two employees of his office, the State Chancellery reported to the LETA agency.
