On Monday evening around 22:00, the driver of an Audi car, being in a state of intoxication of more than two promille, lost control while turning on Valmieras Street in Riga and seriously damaged three parked cars at the roadside.
An Audi car crashed into a Dacia parked at the edge of the road, which was then pushed into a Volkswagen, after which a Volvo was also damaged. According to eyewitnesses, a man was driving, with a woman next to him, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
While waiting for the officers of the State Police, the driver managed to dance and exchange harsh words with people who began to gather at the scene. When law enforcement arrived, they had to call for backup, as the man was not willing to cooperate.
"He doesn’t want to blow into the tube. Really drunk. Seriously?" — described the situation an eyewitness who filmed the video. It was visible that the driver got into a physical altercation with the police and was subdued.
The owners of the damaged cars also arrived at the scene to assess the damage. Andris's red Dacia suffered the most.
"The driver looked either on drugs or drunk. One of the two. There were police officers, four men, twisting his arms and dragging him into their car. But something was wrong with him — either drugs or alcohol. My car was the first one he crashed into. The others got a bit less. But I got it full on. It can’t be restored anymore," Andris said.
As noted by State Police representative Lina Bagdone, it was established that the Audi driver was in a state of alcohol intoxication of more than two promille. He was detained and taken to a temporary detention center.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident.
