This month, in one of the apartment buildings in Riga, in the Purvciems neighborhood, a man was killed by several knife strikes. Suspected of committing the crime, the State Police detained an acquaintance of the deceased the next day. In connection with the incident, a criminal process has been initiated, and a preventive measure has been applied to the suspect — detention.
On March 20 of this year, the State Police received information from the Emergency Medical Service that a man born in 1987 was found dead in an apartment in Riga, in the Purvciems neighborhood, with multiple stab wounds. Neighbors of the deceased reported the possible crime to the medical personnel.
While clarifying the circumstances of the incident, information was obtained that the crime was possibly committed by an acquaintance of the deceased — a man born in 1996, with whom he had spent time in the apartment consuming alcoholic beverages. The suspect left the crime scene and initially hid from law enforcement. Employees of the 1st Department of the 1st Bureau of the Criminal Police of the Riga Regional Department of the State Police, together with colleagues from the Northern Division of the Riga Regional Department, conducted extensive search operations until the next day when the man turned himself in to the police.
Current information indicates that the crime was committed during a domestic conflict.
In connection with the incident, a criminal process has been initiated under Article 116 of the Criminal Law — for murder. For such a crime, the law provides for life imprisonment or imprisonment for a term of five to twenty years with probation supervision for up to three years.
On March 23, the man born in 1996 was recognized as a suspect, and a preventive measure was applied — detention.
The State Police reminds that no person is considered guilty until their guilt in committing a crime is proven in accordance with the law.
