With the onset of the warm season, strange incidents have increased in popular leisure spots near Riga. In Zakuemju, a changing cabin ended up in the river, while in Carnikava, fire destroyed part of the improved area by the lake.

In the suburbs of Riga, where residents increasingly relax by the water with the arrival of warm weather, several strange incidents have occurred in recent days. This is reported by the Degpunktā program (TV3).

In Zakuemju, a changing cabin installed at an unofficial swimming spot partially ended up in the Great Jugla.

Theoretically, strong winds could be the cause, but local residents doubt this version. According to them, the structure is heavy enough that it is more likely someone pushed it into the water intentionally.

The cabin has already been pulled back to the shore.

Local residents suspect that teenagers who regularly gather by the river near the gas pipeline bridge may have been involved in the incident.

"Since we often walk in this area, there are reasonable suspicions that the culprits could be the same teenagers," residents told Degpunktā in an interview.

At the same time, one local resident noted that such incidents had rarely occurred here before.

The problem is complicated by the absence of surveillance cameras. The local government of the Ropaži region reported that they are currently evaluating possible options for reinforcing the cabin and improving the area.

"The local government urges both residents of the region and guests to treat public infrastructure objects with care," representatives of the region noted.

Another incident occurred in Carnikava, near Lake Dzirnezers. On the island of Sidrabsalina, fire destroyed part of the leisure area: a wooden chair, table, and trash bin burned down.

Signs of the fire were even left on the nearest tree.

The company "Carnikavas komunālserviss" learned of the incident only after the weekend, when the fire had extinguished itself and there was no need to call firefighters.

Now, municipal services are trying to understand whether it was an accident or intentional arson.

"There are two possible scenarios. Either it happened due to improper disposal of cigarette butts, or the place was intentionally set on fire," said the director of the company, Lauris Bernans.

Staff have already removed the charred structures, but they do not plan to restore the destroyed furniture for now.

With the arrival of warm weather, such leisure areas become particularly popular, and along with this, the risk of vandalism, careless handling of fire, and damage to public infrastructure increases.

While residents head out to enjoy nature, local governments increasingly have to deal with issues of vandalism and damaged leisure areas.
