The music of the band seems to program a tragic fate.
A tragedy in the forests of Karelia claimed the life of talented St. Petersburg conductor and choirmaster Pyotr Gaydukov. The 34-year-old artist, whose expressive image in the Shortparis music video "Apple Orchard" became famous, did not survive a solo trip during the holiday weekend. The body of the artist, who froze to death, was discovered by rescuers after extensive searches.
The musician went skiing in the Lahdenpohja district but at some point lost his route and separated from his companion.
The last people to see Pyotr alive on March 8 were random tourists on snowmobiles. Eyewitnesses recall meeting a man with a backpack right on the ice and offering him help, but Gaydukov politely declined, assuring them that he was enjoying his walk.
When communication with him was lost, professional rescuers and volunteers from "LizaAlert" joined the search, using special equipment. Unfortunately, the harsh nature proved stronger: medics confirmed death from hypothermia.
Pyotr Gaydukov was not only a conductor - he possessed a rare academic voice and regularly participated in prestigious classical music festivals, such as the "St. Petersburg Musical Spring."
Colleagues and friends of Pyotr cannot believe what has happened, calling his departure a devastating loss for culture. The conductor was a true fan of his craft - he led the War Veterans' Choir, performed at the Mariinsky Theatre, and headed a group at Herzen University. Members of the Shortparis group, recalling their collaboration, note that Pyotr was always an incredibly sincere and profound person, whose inner fragility was combined with a powerful talent.
A Series of Losses
The death of Gaydukov was yet another blow for fans of the modern St. Petersburg scene. Just recently, Shortparis frontman Nikolai Komyagin passed away - the 39-year-old artist felt unwell after boxing practice. Philip Kirkorov referred to Nikolai as the "Russian Kurt Cobain." Danila Kozlovsky, who worked with Komyagin on the series "Karamora," stated that Nikolai was an artist of incredible strength, yet maintained an astonishing intelligence.
Now, the news of Gaydukov's death has hit Shortparis fans hard, as he became a bright symbol of the generation after filming the music video "Apple Orchard," where Pyotr passionately conducted a choir on a snowy street stage. The death of the young and vigorous conductor in the prime of his life seems an unjust accident, leaving a huge void in the hearts of those who knew him personally or admired his inspiring performances on screen.
