In various regions of France, 33 men aged between 37 and 79 were arrested in recent days. They are suspected of downloading a file containing child sexual abuse materials created by the notorious Australian criminal Peter Scully.
The downloaded files contain footage of the torture and rape of three children. This involves two girls, aged 11 and 12 at the time, and a child who was 18 months old. These recordings were made by Peter Scully in the Philippines in 2012. The materials have been circulating in the darknet for about 14 years, reports NOS.
62-year-old Peter Scully is considered one of the most brutal criminals committing crimes against children. He was arrested in the Philippines in 2015. He is serving a life sentence for human trafficking and the rape of minors. In 2022, an additional 129 years of imprisonment was added to his sentence. His Filipino girlfriend and two accomplices were also found guilty of child sexual abuse, human trafficking, and rapes.
Special Software Helped Identify Suspects
The downloads in France were detected using the American monitoring system Child Protection System, designed to combat the distribution of child sexual abuse materials.
The arrests took place in the departments of Rhône, Bouches-du-Rhône, Seine-Maritime, Mayenne, Essonne, Val-d'Oise, as well as in the suburbs of Paris.
According to French media, a special police unit conducted a large-scale operation over several weeks to identify the suspects.
What Awaits the Arrested
The suspects have been charged with possession and distribution of child sexual abuse materials. They face up to five years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros.
