On Monday afternoon, emergency services were dispatched to Krasta Street in Riga after receiving information that a person was lying on the ice.
The information currently available to law enforcement indicates that a woman jumped from the Island Bridge and died, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3). Firefighters removed the body of the deceased from the ice and also brought a floral wreath ashore.
"In connection with the incident, a criminal process has been initiated under Chapter 13 of the Criminal Law. Currently, there is no indication of a criminal act, and the circumstances of the incident are being clarified. The deceased is approximately 40–45 years old, and her identity is being established," said State Police representative Gita Grjibovska.
