In Sarkandaugava on Saturday evening during a fight, one man had his face cut. All participants in the conflict were in a state of intoxication and were ready to fight to the last.
Screams for help and swearing could be heard on Lapstu Street near the local store on Saturday evening, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3). Locals say that fights or loud arguments are not uncommon in the area. This time, the men fought over a woman.
"He was sitting with his legs stretched out… He was bothering some girl. Probably, she called her boyfriend, he came out and said: why are you bothering my girlfriend? He replied: I’m not bothering anyone. And that was it. I left. But soon I saw that there were already police lights there. He looked like such a scary guy — the one who was sitting there," said a local resident.
In the eyewitness video, it is impossible to tell who among the opponents was hurt — the one who was defending his girlfriend or the one who made a remark to the unfamiliar woman. However, it is clearly heard that none of the participants in the fight, nor the woman who caused the conflict, were sober.
"Please, don’t cut him… Ah, he’s biting me! Don’t hit him," the woman’s screams can be heard. "Alena, don’t get under the knife, don’t get under the knife. This [censored] is over," a male voice is heard.
"According to available information, a conflict arose between a woman and a man near the store, later two more men joined him. During the conflict, one of the men took out a utility knife and inflicted bodily harm on another man. Officers of the State Police Special Task Battalion detained the attacker. A criminal process has been initiated under part two of Article 130 of the Criminal Law — for intentionally causing minor bodily harm," said State Police representative Gita Grjibovska.
In footage captured by witnesses, it can be seen that the man has a deep wound on his cheek. The police also note that all participants in the incident were in a state of intoxication.
"Honestly, all the problems come from this store. (Degpunktā: Is this the place where they gather?) Yes, this store needs to be removed because problems constantly arise. Even in the parking lot — different people come and ask for money. How many times have they come up and said: give me a euro or something!" said a parking lot security guard.
"This is the kind of crowd here. This store is terrible. They stand there and drink. The police come, leave — and that’s it. It seems like the police are nearby, but it’s impossible to live here. We need to leave," said a local resident sadly.
The shop assistant at this store noted in a conversation with Degpunktā that people come in both in a state of alcohol and drug intoxication, but overall, the situation, according to her, is not that bad. Everyone has their own criteria.
