On Thursday, a fight occurred in one of the apartment buildings in Sarkandaugava, during which a young man was stabbed. The authorities have not yet commented on how the conflict ended and whether the perpetrator was apprehended, but Degpunktā went to talk to the residents of the building about what happened.
On Thursday, a message appeared in the chat of a nine-story building indicating that there may have been an attack in the building, as emergency service vehicles, including an ambulance, were spotted in the yard, and loud noises were heard from the upper floors, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
Walking through the stairwell, on the ninth floor, one can see blood on the floor as well as on the walls and doors of the apartment. Between the eighth and ninth floors, there are bottles of alcohol.
“The noise was terrible, but as an elderly woman, I didn’t go to see. At some point, they were ringing and knocking on all the doors. But what happened there, I really don’t know,” says a woman living in the building.
A neighbor, whose door is surrounded by puddles of blood, recounts that the local youth, who have been noisy before, probably had another gathering. According to her, blood could be squeezed from the mat at the entrance like from a wet rag.
She says: “Well, first there was a fight. Very intense, screams, shouting, constant swearing. Apparently, it was on the eighth floor. We have already gotten used to various events happening on the eighth floor, and we generally do not react. Because they often drink until morning and so on, I somehow don’t react. And when there was a guy at our door… ”
The resident continues: “Yes, they called an ambulance, I heard it was an ambulance. I realized that it ended badly. There was a girl, a guy here, and a guy was lying here, I just looked through the peephole, I couldn’t even open the door because he was lying right here on our mat. The ambulance took a long time to arrive. He kept saying: breathe, don’t leave!”
From what was heard and seen, it was clear that the situation was very serious. Medical personnel provided assistance to the young man for a long time — they set up several IV drips. Officers from the State Police also arrived, questioning both the victim's friends and local residents.
“The girl was behaving hysterically. She said — this is my boyfriend. She was in a real frenzy. When my husband arrived here in the evening, he said she was completely drunk. Apparently, they had been drinking, and then I heard the guy telling the police — someone came out and made a remark to them. Some man, a woman with a kitchen knife. And there were several altercations, swearing between them. Then I heard that there was a fight, they were separated, each sent in their direction. This was on the eighth floor. Then they drank again and something else happened, and they started again… Well, a very “interesting” situation when you know that someone is dying at your door,” says the resident.
The State Police are currently not commenting on the incident. It is also unknown how serious the young man's injuries are and whether the attacker has been apprehended. We will follow up with new information.
