In Zolitūde, a police crew responding to a call was unable to reach the destination — the service vehicle crashed into a lamp post. As a result of the incident, assistance from another crew was required. Not only the vehicle was damaged, but also the street lighting object.
The accident occurred on Alexander Bieziņš Street: the car went off the road and crashed into a pole that lights the sidewalk. Bystanders — pedestrians and drivers — began filming the incident on their phones. A loud bang was heard by residents of nearby houses, as reported by the program "Degpunktā."
One local resident said he heard a noise but did not see the moment of the accident. According to him, he did not hear any sirens.
At the scene, the driver did not provide detailed explanations about the circumstances of the incident, and his colleague recommended contacting the public relations department for comments.
State Police representative Lina Bagdone stated that a police officer, responding to a call in a marked service vehicle, went off the roadway and crashed into a streetlight pole. As a result of the incident, there were no injuries; however, an administrative case was initiated.
According to preliminary information, the car may have skidded, causing it to deviate from its trajectory in a residential area.
