On Friday morning, near Kudra, an accident occurred involving a bus heading to Riga on the Ventspils highway. There were 20 passengers in the vehicle. This was the only vehicle involved in the incident, and fortunately, no one was injured. The bus driver deliberately decided to drive into the ditch to allow another driver to complete the overtaking maneuver and avoid a much more serious accident.

The hatch on the roof of the overturned bus is the only way to get inside after the accident. The driver walks around the overturned vehicle, collecting scattered belongings, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).

The bus was on a route from Talsi to Riga. According to available information, the driver left the road to avoid a collision with another vehicle.

As the bus driver himself explained, a column of cars was moving towards Riga. One of the drivers of a passenger car decided to overtake the bus, but at that moment there were also cars coming in the opposite lane. The bus driver then decided to drive onto the shoulder to prevent a more serious collision.

There were about 20 passengers on the bus, and fortunately, none of them were injured. The passengers were still able to reach their destination, albeit with a delay.

"Most likely, with another bus that was following this route, because the driver said that everyone had already left," commented Mareks Bidzāns, head of the passenger transport department at Talsu autotransports.

In response to the remark that, apparently, the passengers were wearing seatbelts since no one was injured in such a fall, Bidzāns replied: "Yes, because in all our buses, after each stop, there is information requesting passengers to fasten their seatbelts, and the display also indicates that they need to buckle up. So this information is constantly available. Passengers are also becoming more conscious and buckle up."

There is a video recording on the bus that the police will be able to check to determine whether the accident occurred as described by the driver. After the bus is retrieved from the ditch, it will be sent for repairs so that it can return to service later.
