Last week in Daugavpils, a man violated the ban on being on the ice of water bodies and crossed the Daugava, the LETA agency was informed by the city municipality.
On Saturday, the Daugavpils municipal police's video surveillance point recorded a dangerous situation when a man was walking on the ice of the Daugava. Given that there was an official ban on being on the ice, the nearest police crew was immediately dispatched to the scene.
The police demanded that the man immediately get off the ice, but he ignored the demand and continued to cross the river, putting his life in danger. To prevent a tragedy, the municipal police officers went to the opposite bank of the river, where they managed to detain the man.
"At the moment the person was brought to the shore, the ice broke, but the damage was limited to wet feet," the municipality reported.
The man, born in 1992, explained that he was just taking a walk while consuming alcohol.
The man has been held administratively liable for prohibited presence on the ice and for consuming alcoholic beverages in a public place.
