“They crash into radishes, carrots… and run away.” A resident of Ogre, Juris, has had his yard damaged again

On Sunday evening, residents of Ogre noticed a Volkswagen car that crashed into someone else's property, knocked down a fence, and damaged a yard, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3). After that, the driver allegedly turned on the hazard lights and fled, not notifying either the police or the property owner.

Ogre resident Juris returned home in the evening and immediately noticed a damaged fence and a stranger's Volkswagen parked on his property with its hazard lights on. The man called the police, and locals reported that the driver simply left the scene.

When the Degpunktā team arrived at Juris's place the next day, the car was still "decorating" his yard. According to the man, the police promised to remove the vehicle within the day.

Juris's house is located at the corner of an intersection where cars converge from five directions, often speeding. For decades, he has faced drivers who knock down his fence, drive over flowerbeds, and create constant trouble.

Before this accident, the last incident occurred on January 3 — when one of the drivers crashed into a pole, the fence, and drove away. But there have been worse cases.

“It’s not the first time they’ve crashed here. Something needs to change — look, the linden tree is crooked, there used to be a power line pole there. During the Soviet era, there were about six to eight such cases,” Juris recounts.

He has long lost count of the incidents but estimates that there have been around 20 — when speedsters, often under the influence, crashed into his property. This place is well-known in Ogre as potentially dangerous; however, there are currently no plans to change the traffic organization here. Juris just shrugs and says he has gotten used to it — both he and even his pet react more calmly to aggressive drivers over the years.

The State Police have identified the guilty driver — he faces fines for causing an accident and leaving the scene. And Juris will have to do repairs again, hoping that another unwanted guest won’t drive into his yard soon.
