More than 160,000 euros in cash seized from drug dealers arrested in Plavnieki

The State Police (GP) this week arrested a previously convicted man and a woman in the Riga neighborhood of Plavnieki on suspicion of illegal trafficking in narcotic and psychotropic substances in large quantities. During the search, not only large quantities of drugs were found on the arrested individual, but also over 160,000 euros in cash, reports LETA, citing the GP.

While working in the field of combating illegal drug trafficking, law enforcement officials identified a 37-year-old man (born in 1986), previously convicted for drug trafficking, and a woman born in 2002. They were involved in drug sales in Riga. Both were arrested on January 13.

During the arrest, the man had 11 MDMA tablets in his possession. During a search of the utility room of his rented house in Plavnieki, the police discovered 12 kilograms of MDMA tablets, 500 grams of amphetamine, and 153,585 euros in cash. In his car, they found another 40 grams of amphetamine, three MDMA tablets, and 8,220 euros.

Considering that the man has no official place of employment, the police have reasonable suspicions that the found money was obtained through criminal means. If their illegal origin is confirmed, the funds may be confiscated for the benefit of the state budget.

A detention order has been chosen as a preventive measure for the suspect.

For drug trafficking as part of a group and in large quantities, the Criminal Law provides for a punishment of imprisonment for a term of five to 15 years, with or without confiscation of property, as well as probation supervision for up to three years.
