On Friday morning, as a result of a fire in a residential building in the village of Krustkalni in Kekava municipality, two people died, 29 people were rescued, several were injured, and 15 evacuated themselves, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) reported to the LETA agency.

The Emergency Medical Service confirmed to the LETA agency that minors have died. The fire occurred in a building at 5 Jaunlazdu Street.

At 4:59 AM, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received information about a fire in an apartment on the first floor of a four-story residential building in Kekava municipality. Firefighters arrived on the scene and found that open flames were rapidly spreading through the floors of the building. The firefighters immediately began searching all apartments and rescuing people.

From the burning building, firefighters rescued 29 people, of whom 18 were in rescue masks, six were assisted with aerial ladders, and five more were rescued using a three-stage extension ladder.

Emergency medical assistance was required for seven individuals: four injured were hospitalized, while three did not require hospitalization.

As a result of the fire, two people died. An additional 15 people evacuated from the building on their own.

On Friday morning, firefighters continue to work at the scene - structural demolition is underway.

The Kekava municipality informed the LETA agency that a crisis management group meeting will be held on Friday morning in connection with the incident, during which necessary assistance for the victims will be discussed.
