On Friday, a person died in a fire in a residential building in Riga, reported the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) to the LETA agency.

At 11:14, firefighters received a call to a two-story residential building where a room on the first floor, covering an area of 30 square meters, was on fire. During the firefighting efforts, a deceased person was found. The fire was extinguished at 15:07.

Around the same time, in another area of Riga, on Rudens Street, the smell of smoke was detected in the entrance of a nine-story residential building. Firefighters determined that household items were burning in one of the apartments over a small area. Two people were rescued from the smoke-filled apartment and handed over to medical personnel, one of whom was injured. The firefighting operations concluded at 12:03.

Shortly before 16:00, firefighters rushed to Jekaba Street in Jekabpils, where garbage was burning in a small area of an abandoned single-story building. A person evacuated from the building before the arrival of the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). Operations at the scene were completed at 16:12.

At 18:50, the SFRS received a call about a person in the Berze River in Dobele. Using a rescue board, the service personnel reached the victim, pulled him to the shore, and handed him over to the Emergency Medical Service team.

Over the past 24 hours, from 6:30 on Friday to 6:30 on Saturday, the SFRS received a total of 45 calls — eight for fire extinguishing, 21 for rescue operations, and 16 calls turned out to be false, according to the service's consolidated statistics.
