The Security Police (SP) conducted searches at two locations in Jelgava and detained one person as part of a criminal process, reports LTV.
In the interests of the investigation, the service is not disclosing further details, including the name of the detainee and possible violations.
Unofficial information available to LTV indicates that the detainee is activist Viktor Gushchin.
Gushchin ran for election to the 12th and 13th Saeima from the list of the Latvian Russian Union, but was never elected. He worked as a teacher and published books on history.
Viktor Gushchin defended his dissertation and received a PhD in historical sciences. He taught at many Latvian universities.
Since 2020, he has been the president of the Russian Community of Latvia.
